We have a client based in a rural part of Herefordshire/ Shropshire. They suffer from slow broadband speeds. With BT the client is only just getting 1 Mbit/s download speed and only 1 Mbit/s upload speed. To have fibre broadband installed by BT/ Openreach will cost thousands of pounds in additional charges. These expensive charges are not justifiable and un-affordable to the Client, who runs an SME business. In addition their mobile phone signal for voice and data is weak to average.

The Client asked Statcom Telecoms to carry out a survey. We check the client’s remote location has suitable mobile phone network coverage and then we arranged to install a High Gain 4G (5G ready) directional antenna.

Our engineer installed the 4G dish on an external pole attached high up on the side of the client’s premises. Directing the dish towards the best mobile phone mast. Due to its larger size, this high gain antenna connected to the mobile phone network. It received excellent signal at the client’s location where mobile phone signal was only average at best.

The engineer then connected the 4G dish to the client’s router, via a CAT6 cable and this enabled the clients’ laptops and other devices to have Super fast fibre speeds without using BT/ Openreach network & fibre cables.

The installed 4G (5G ready) dish has an unlimited mobile data SIM card in it. With the 4G cellular dish he is now getting 150 Mbit/s download and about 30 Mbit/s upload. So the equivalent of superfast fibre, but via cellular network rather than a landline.

The unit is equipped with a built in high quality Category 4 modem for speeds of up to 150 Mbit/s downlink and 50 Mbit/s uplink. Data SIM cards from all major UK mobile networks can be used with this device.

The client is now able to have uninterrupted, covid safe Zoom and Microsoft Teams meetings, without the stress of buffering and constantly being disconnected from the internet as a result of poor broadband speeds.

This solution has saved the client thousands of pounds in BT/ Openreach Fibre broadband additional installation charges.
